Our Strategy for Impact

JSSWG is dedicated to serving companies with a presence in the Japanese market to improve their sustainability performance and build strong stakeholder relationships. We do this through sharing good practices from across BSR’s membership network and adapting learnings to be relevant to stakeholders in the Japanese market.

How We Work

JSSWG is a network of companies headquartered in Japan that collaborate through:

Reviewing the latest expectations of stakeholders, reporting standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD), recommendations (ISSB), and policy trends (EU CSRD and ERIS, SEC rules)
Hosting in-person and virtual knowledge-sharing meetings
Engaging experts from leading ESG investor communities and leading peer companies to gather new insights

Adam Fishman

New York

Adam works with BSR member companies across industries on sustainability management, including stakeholder engagement, materiality, strategy and reporting, among other topics.

Prior to BSR, Adam was a thematic expert on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the International Institute for Sustainable Development, focusing on the linkages between climate, development, business, and sustainable consumption and production. He previously worked on the SDGs team at World Resources Institute. During his graduate studies, Adam interned at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and was a Coca-Cola World Fund fellow with Conservation International, researching the strategic connections between the SDGs and corporate sustainability.

Adam holds a Master’s in Environmental Management from the Yale School of the Environment, specializing in Business and the Environment. He has a BA in Environmental Studies and Government, with a concentration in International Politics, from Wesleyan University.

Ogi Kanaya

With deep experience as researcher and consultant, Ogi advises companies in Japan on a range of sustainability topics to promote business practices that are aligned with global and forward-looking perspectives. Within her business transformation advisory work, she focuses on materiality analysis, sustainability strategy development, and stakeholder engagement.

Prior to joining BSR, Ogi worked for a research consultancy for 20 years. She focused on a wide range of environmental issue areas, including climate change, circular economy, disclosure, and communications to governments and the private sector.

She holds an M.A. in Policy Science from Doshisha University Graduate School of Policy and Management.
