Mission

To ensure the human rights of workers within the informal waste sector are respected and their critical role in circular value chains is recognized.

Our Strategy for Impact

The Fair Circularity Initiative aims to create an ecosystem to implement the Fair Circularity Principles within global, regional, and national policy, and within waste and recycling value chains.

We do this by:

• Providing a forum convening industry actors with civil society and waste picker representatives to set the direction for business action.
• Developing advocacy projects in strategic countries and policy action guidance and capacity-building activities in the business community.
• Creating an enabling environment for change through strategic communications, events, and media opportunities.
• Achieving industry alignment on responsible sourcing frameworks.
• Collaborating with industry partners in consultation with waste picker groups to identify the best route to overcoming barriers to value chain transformation.
• Impacts: SDGs 1, 5, 8, 12

How We Work

The initiative’s priorities and strategy are guided by the Interim Steering Group comprised of the five corporate members, the civil society organization Tearfund, and BSR acting as Secretariat.

FCI’s objective is to influence policy and public narrative and impact waste and recycling value chains through:

• A robust consultation with stakeholders,
• Transparent reporting on progress,
• A network of experts in communication, policy, supply chain transformation, capacity building, and project management.
